Most shoe pages tell you how a pair will make you feel. We wanted one that tells you what the pair is, so that is how we write ours. No promises about your feet, no borrowed adjectives, just a plain account of the shoe in front of you, written from the details that come with each pair.

Where we know it, the product page names the upper, the sole, and the fastening, and it lists the size run. We name the upper as it is listed to us: leather where the listing says leather, textile or a leather look where it says that. We do not test the uppers ourselves, and where a detail is not given, the page leaves it out rather than guessing.

Women's and men's styles sit side by side in US sizing, and the options on each page show exactly which sizes that pair comes in. These are everyday styles, not runway pieces, the pairs that get worn on an ordinary Tuesday. If you are between sizes, email us and we will tell you how that particular pair comes up.

Our mission is a product page you can read without reading between the lines. You will not find a countdown, a stock warning, or a review score on these pages. What you get is the pair, the details we have on what it is made of, the sizes it comes in, and the product photos.

The store is built around everyday footwear rather than occasion pieces. A lace up sneaker for weekdays, a sandal for a summer evening, a boot for the colder months, a work style for the job that asks for one. Each page is written from the same facts, in the same order, so one pair is easy to compare with the next.

That also means fixing what we get wrong. If a listing seems to name the wrong upper or sole, or a pair runs large or small, tell us and we will check and update the page. Our customer service is available Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET and replies within 24 hours on business days.

We picture a wardrobe of shoes that is chosen rather than accumulated. A few pairs that fit the way you really live: the commute, the school pickup, the dinner that ran late, the Sunday with nowhere to be, and the week when every day asks for something different.

Shoes should follow your day instead of setting it. A pair you can put on for the morning walk and still be wearing when the evening turns into plans, without going home to change. That is the pair we hope you find here, and the reason every page tries to tell you plainly what you are looking at.

Over the coming years we want Sophie and Dan to be the store you come back to when a pair wears out, because the page told you plainly what you were buying the first time. Plain pages, named uppers where we have them, and shoes for the way you walk through your week.
